Why did I launch Artha?

Say hi! I'd love to chat
My passion for history and culture began at a very young age. By the time I was seven, I was already dreaming of becoming an archaeologist, driven by a deep curiosity to unearth the past to better understand our present and future. Growing up in Mumbai, I often felt like an outsider, constantly asking questions and seeking answers that weren’t easily found.
The first time I truly learned about Indian Art History was during my bachelor’s studies in Canada. I kept on asking myself, why do I have to go to the other side of the world to have access to this? It was a transformative experience that sparked a powerful desire within me: to make Indian art and culture more widely known and appreciated.
This journey took me to Milan for a master’s degree in the art market, and then to Paris for my MBA. Through these experiences, I noticed something striking—Asian art, as represented globally, rarely included South Asian, particularly Indian, art. For example, it wasn’t until 2023 that Asia Now, a leading Asian Art fair in Paris, featured an Indian gallery for the first time since its inception. This glaring omission deeply disturbed me.
I began to ask myself, "What can I do about this?" The answer was Artha. In Sanskrit, 'Artha' signifies purpose, a fundamental pillar of life according to the Vedas. My Artha is to shine a spotlight on India’s rich artistic culture and heritage, ensuring it gains the recognition it deserves in the global art world. This is my dream, my purpose, and the mission that drives me every day.
